Lymphoedema and Lymphatic treatments
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) or Lymphatic Massage
is used as a healing modality and can improve health and well-being. It is a very gentle and relaxing form of massage targeted towards stimulation of the Lymphatic system and manual assistance of lymph movement through the body.
Stimulation of the Lymphatic system, assists in movement of toxins, waste products and cell debris, from the tissues and organs so that the body can filter, clean and discard the waste.
If your system is compromised or overwhelmed emotionally or physically, your Lymphatic system may struggle to function at optimal capacity. When your health is compromised, it is even more important to maintain a good flowing Lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage can assist to stimulate a sluggish lymphatic system and move excess fluids sitting in the tissues, especially after a period of illness or general ill health.
Manual lymphatic drainage may help alleviate the pain created by the toxic build up and subsequent pressure on the nervous system.
The treatment can assist in improving circulation, lessen muscle and bone pain and reduce oedema (fluid retention). MLD is a component of Complex / Decongestive Lymphatic therapy and incorporated in the management of Lymphoedema and Lipoedema.
